Molding in perfection
And a sound of sweetness !
Giannis Tsoulogiannis has finished the construction of the A/I Stathopoulos mold for the bowl. To ensure that the construction of the pre-war bowl is symmetrical and precise to Stathopoulos specifications, the luthier started to generate sample bouzouki bowls using walnut staves.
When the luthier is satisfied (that the mold meets the exact specifications and requirements), he will then start constructing the final bowl using very old curly maple woods, and Indian rosewoods.
The effort and dedication which Giannis shows in this final attempt to recreate a museum quality pre-war bouzouki, has surpassed my expectations of a professional relationship between luthier and customer.
From the other hand, and after a lot of requests from followers, I am in the pleasant position to inform that the sound of the Politiko bouzouki has finally reached it's mature level.
The sound has become much deeper, with great volume, and with an exceptional sweetness. It is this sweetness of Politiko's timbre which has captivated my heart.
For years now, at my question "Which luthier creates trichorda bouzoukia with a sweet old rebetko sound?" I was always getting the answer that the sweetness usually comes from the player and not from the instrument.
And since the way I am playing hasn't changed much, I will have to partially disagree with the above statement. Tasos Theodorakis indeed created a trichordo bouzouki with a beautiful, and unique sweet sound!
