Theft at the House of Stathopoulo
Musical instruments at the value of $ 2,000!
On July 1st 1922, an organized group of thieves stole from the House of Stathopoulo, musical instruments valued at $ 2,000
Accordingly to inflation calculator "$2,000 in 1922 was equivalent in purchasing power to about $32,567.50 today, an increase of $30,567.50 over 99 years. The dollar had an average inflation rate of 2.86% per year between 1922 and today, producing a cumulative price increase of 1,528.38%."
In 1922, the House of Stathopoulo was relocated at the following address : 167 West and 48th street New York, NY. USA
A quick google map search, reveals a possibly original four stories narrow building .
By 1922 the House of Stathopoulo was using mostly the simplified red and white eclipse label inside their musical instruments, instead of the more elaborated , blue and white label with the Lyra, previously used.
I got into the temptation to generate a virtual rendering of what the building might have been like in 1922 when it housed the House of Stathopoulo
Digital manipulation of the building with the blue/white label
Digital manipulation of the building with the red /white label
Among the musical instruments stolen from House of Stathopoulo , was also a 1780 Thompson cello
